Break-even Calculator
Calculate the number of sales needed to break even.
Know your break-even point
Until you reach the threshold, every sale reduces your loss. Past the threshold, every sale is profit. It is your minimum monthly target.
Concrete example
Fixed costs: 60,000 FCFA/month (rent 30,000 + electricity 10,000 + transport 20,000). Product sold at 7,500 FCFA, variable cost 4,500 FCFA → unit margin 3,000 FCFA. Break-even: 60,000 ÷ 3,000 = 20 sales/month, i.e. 150,000 FCFA revenue. Above that: profit.
Frequently asked questions
What is the break-even point?
The number of sales (or revenue) from which your business covers all its costs. Below: loss. Above: profit.
How do I calculate it simply?
Break-even (units) = Fixed costs ÷ Unit margin. Example: 30,000 FCFA rent ÷ 2,000 FCFA margin per product = 15 sales to cover the rent.
What is it useful for day to day?
To set your targets: "I need to sell 15 dresses this month before making money." And to decide whether a product or a shop is viable.
