Avoid running out of stock
Running out of stock means a customer who orders elsewhere. The reorder point tells you when to order; the quantity covers the next cycle.
Concrete example
You sell 3 natural oils per day (500 ml). Your supplier delivers in 7 days. Reorder point: (3 × 7) + 10 = 31 units. You have 12 left: order 31 − 12 = 19 units, i.e. 38,000 FCFA at 2,000 FCFA each.
Frequently asked questions
When should I reorder?
When your stock reaches the reorder point: (daily sales × delivery time) + safety stock. Example: 3 sales/day, 7-day delay, safety 10 → reorder at 31 units left.
How much should I order at once?
Order enough to cover a full cycle: (daily sales × delay) + safety stock − current stock. Round to a practical multiple for your supplier.
What is safety stock?
A reserve that absorbs surprises: late supplier, sales spike, cancelled delivery. Usually 20–30% of one cycle's sales.
